Day 52. Funky Fez Hat

My husband is a Huge history buff. We’ve been filling the house with historical related podcasts. We just finished the rule and fall of the Roman Empire and moved onto the Ottoman Empire. They discussed fez hats and the ban on them due to tensions with Austrian trade.
What caught my attention was i was actually first introduced to the fez via vintage American smoking jacket characters in the movies. Haha. Well I’m On my ridge and vintage kick, so I came up with this fez design while we listened to the Ottoman Empire tapes.

Day 51: Robertson Ridge Technique

Lately I’ve been designing a line of hats that all use the same technique. I call this technique the Robertsons Ridge Technique. So far I’ve designed three hats using this technique.

The first was this Pretty Pillbox Hat.

IMG_2755

Followed by the Boo-Yah Bucket hat.

Just yesterday I released this Amish Inspired Hat Pattern.

And tomorrow there will be another one using this technique.

This technique uses a sequence of three rows to get the desired ridge look. It starts by using desired stitch in the BLO of an entire row. Followed by two rows of desired stitch in the FLO of each row.

BLO stands for back loop only.
FLO stands for front loop only.

I have included a link to a video tutorial on how to crochet in the BLO and FLO. The video can be found HERE.

The video link is courtesy of Yarn Obsession.

You can also find these FREE patterns as a bundle on my RAVELRY.

Keep your eyes peeled for more hats using this technique coming soon. I’m currently working on at least four more designs 🙂

Day 42

I’ve never done this before.
This post features a few patterns in one, an Amigurumi pattern, as well as a very special guest, Remy Carreiro of Remycarreiro.com. !!!

IMG_2836

Cthulhu Hat design by Mini Moose Kim. I

Basic Adult Ski Mask by The Crochet Cauldron. Previously seen HERE as day 5.

IMG_2846

Amigurumi Voodoo doll design by Abbygurumi.

IMG_2847

The mask was requested by a very talented and amazing writer, Remy Carreiro. Being the avid Remlin that I am I had to make it and a little extra for him! I knew the voodoo doll was perfect. It was quick and easy to work up and fun to throw my own little flair on him! The sad news is, my son ripped off the first button I fastened on :(. Nothing Joan’s and some hot glue won’t fix. I sewed and glued that sucker on!
The mask was a bit of a challenge. So much so I decided to fuse two patterns. I loves how the Basic Ski Mask fit on the top of the head, but I wanted the tentacle beard like the Cthulhu hat pattern. It worked out perfectly and both patterns are very easy to read and follow. I used red heart super saver.

Day 37. Artic Fury Aviator Hat

My oldest son henry has been BEGGING me to make pom poms. He’s obsessed with my pom Pom maker. It’s magic, I know it! 😉 I’ve also been quite homesick seeing all these newscasts calling for snow nationwide. I HAD to design a snowy inspired hat for him with a huge Pom on top of course. Here is what I came up with :).
